About the Coalitions
MotherWoman trains communities in creating coalitions to address the issue of perinatal emotional complications and perinatal mood disorders on the community level.
We know that the only way in which we can truly help ALL mothers who are in crisis is for communities to come together to create comprehensive safety nets in which providers on all levels, from WIC workers, early intervention specialists, childcare providers, medical providers, lactation consultants, OB nurses and birth attendants as well as pediatricians, OB’s and other physicians, are all working in concert together to provide education, screening, resources and referral to mothers.
MotherWoman has successfully developed the Western Massachusetts Perinatal Support Coalition Network with separate coalitions in four distinct counties including rural, urban and suburban communities which are addressing these issues.
MotherWoman’s work in each of these counties includes Professional Training for providers on all levels of care, development of resource and referral systems, and implementation of universal screening, all of which ensures that every community in the region has a support group for mothers experiencing perinatal emotional complications.
